Top 4 Reasons It's Difficult for New Investors To Buy Hedge Funds

In an older article I wrote called What Is a Hedge Fund?, I explained to you what hedge funds are, how hedge funds work, and some reasons many wealthy investors consider hedge funds among the tools they want to employ as part of their quest to protect and grow their capital over the long-run.  For the right investor, with the right resources and experience, at the right fee schedule, and at the right time, hedge funds can be a great thing, especially if they are focused on an asset class that fits within the overall asset allocation targets of the individual in a way publicly traded securities such as stocks and bonds can't.
Now, I want to take some time to explain the reasons it can be nearly impossible for new investors to gain access to high quality hedge funds and some of the rules covering so-called private placement investments.  (A private placement means that you don't have the opportunity to participate in an investment as a member of the public, such as buying it over a stock exchange through a brokerage account as it is, instead, offered only to a select group of specific investors.

Technically, if your brother-in-law started a new corporation to roll out a chain of frozen yogurt stands and you were given the opportunity to buy shares while the general public , it would be considered a private placement investment.)
To understand the reasons hedge funds are so inaccessible to the masses, you need to know that, even though hedge funds are privately held, and often structured as limited partnerships or limited liability companies, their limited partnership units or limited liability company membership units are considered securities under most conditions. The rules are complex and frequently prohibitive for smaller money managers so the Securities and Exchange Commission, or SEC, allows a way around this by exempting several different types of pooled investment vehicles from registration requirements. Most, but not all, of these exemptions are found in something known as “Regulation D”. It is here, in Regulation D that you discover the reasons it is so difficult for new investors to buy into hedge funds.
To some degree, this may actually be a good thing for society as, taken collectively, ordinary investors tend to have less experience, less financial sophistication, and less capacity, as measured by both income and net worth, to absorb the significant risks that come with many hedge fund strategies.  Instead, their best bet is to avoid attempting to access hedge funds entirely and throw in the towel, investing in index funds or passive strategies, perhaps through individually managed accounts if they have at least several hundred thousand dollars, while keeping an eye towards tax efficiency and keeping things like the mutual fund expense ratio reasonable.
Nevertheless, let's dive into Regulation D and discover some of the requirements and restrictions.

Reason #1: Regulation D Makes It So That Non-Accredited Investors Have Only a Limited Number of Spots on the Roster

Specifically, there are three very important parts of Regulation D: Rule 504, Rule 505, and Rule 506. These three rules each have different benefits and drawbacks but the common denominator is that they allow a company or hedge fund to raise money from investors without filing a lot of paperwork. Common restrictions are the inability to raise money from more than 35 non-accredited investors or raising no more than $5 million in any 12-month period.

The Last Supper-O Μυστικός Δείπνος

The Last Supper is the final meal that, in the Gospel accounts, Jesus shared with his Apostles in Jerusalem before his crucifixion.[2The Last Supper is commemorated by Christians especially on Maundy Thursday.[3] Moreover, the Last Supper provides the scriptural basis for the Eucharist, also known as "Holy Communion" or "The Lord's Supper".[4]
The First Epistle to the Corinthians contains the earliest known mention of the Last Supper. The four canonical Gospels all state that the Last Supper took place towards the end of the week, after Jesus' triumphal entry into Jerusalem and that Jesus and his Apostles shared a meal shortly before Jesus was crucified at the end of that week.[5][6] During the meal Jesus predicts his betrayal by one of the Apostles present, and foretells that before the next morning, Peter will deny knowing him.[5][6]
The three Synoptic Gospels and the First Epistle to the Corinthians include the account of the institution of the Eucharist in which Jesus takes bread, breaks it and gives it to the Apostles, saying: "This is my body which is given for you".[5][6] The Gospel of John does not include this episode, but tells of Jesus washing the feet of the Apostles, giving the new commandment "to love one another as I have loved you", and has a detailed farewell discourse by Jesus, calling the Apostles who follow his teachings "friends and not servants", as he prepares them for his departure.[7][8]
Scholars have looked to the Last Supper as the source of early Christian Eucharist traditions.[9][10] Others see the account of the Last Supper as derived from 1st-century eucharistic practice[10][11] as described by Paul in the mid-50s.
The Last Supper served the dual purpose of venerating Passover, the escape of the Jews from slavery in Egypt, and the establishment of a new tradition, Christianity.

The Last Supper (Italian: Il Cenacolo [il tʃeˈnaːkolo] or L'Ultima Cena [ˈlultima ˈtʃeːna]) is a late 15th-century mural painting by Leonardo da Vinci in the refectory of the Convent of Santa Maria delle Grazie, Milan.

TRIREME-OLYMPIAS

Construction works for the trireme of 'OLYMPIAS' began in Greece in May 1985 and was finished in July 1987. The drawings for her manufacture were provided by the 'Trireme Trust' of Britain, while the essential funds were granted by the Hellenic Navy. Initially, the trireme was used as part of an experimental archeological project, in order for scientists to determine the sailing characteristics (speed, etc. ) and her strength. Finally, battle tactics and living conditions inside the vessel were as well examined.

Game of Thrones-All About Women

The Season 6 premiere was heavy on the female empowerment.
This post contains frank discussion of Season 6, Episode 1 of Game of Thrones titled “The Red Woman.” If you haven’t watched yet, now is your chance to leave.
Are they gone? Good.
Game of Thrones is one of the most popular shows on television. But it’s true, perhaps because of that popularity, that some of its perceived flaws came under increased scrutiny in Season 5. Creators Dan Weiss and David Benioff were emphatic, before the season started, that any change in direction you might see in this episode were not in response to viewer feedback. Benioff said, “The thing that’s slightly frustrating is the idea that we’re responding to criticism from last year, so therefore we’re going to beef up the female roles—that’s blatantly untrue.”

Gialova Lagoon For World Heritage of Unesco

The wetlands of Gialova (Divari) are of particular ecological interest as a major stopover point for many migratory birds. Many rare species of birds such as herons and flamingos, ospreys, stilts, avocets, calidris, snipe, curlew, tartaric, terns, and the only chameleon found in Europe. The African chameleon changes colour depending on his mood and are an endangered species so please drive carefully and only park in designated areas. The wetlands are a protected area as among the many species found here there are several endangered birds as well the chameleons and the carretta carretta turtle.

A Paradise where angels take the form of Flamingos.
The only bird with the strange charm of silhouettes, with their feet tall, the long and weird beaks, their slender necks and evligystous. Excites the slow dance moves and drag the pace. Between the wetland and the sea behind thick thyme bushes is hidden another surprise Voidokilia beach, a perfectly round beach surrounded by rolling sand dunes.

The sheltered bay is referred to in Homer's Odyssey and archaeologists believe it was used by King Nestor as a port in ancient times.
Situated at 12 km from the city of Pylos (in the north of the Navarino bay), you reach from the village of Petrochori.

The curve of Voidokilia seems to be traced with a compass like a giant Greek omega (the name means "cow's belly"), from the two rocky promontories that define the entrance of it. It is surrounded by a magnificent beach of light, fine sand, protected by the wind, and the crystalline beach invite somone to go swimming.
Voidokilia is hidden behind sand dunes, which seem to be protecting its secret of magic beauty. The beach of outstanding beauty lies beneath the Old Frankish castle (Paliokastro) and the cave of King Nestor, the ancient King of Pylos, who according to legend, used this cave as a haven for his cattle. Taking the path up from Voidokilia to the Old Navarino castle you will enjoy the wonderful panorama that unfolds in front of you: the Divari lagoon of Gialova, Navarino Bay and the Peloponnesian hills covered with olive trees.

Οι 10 μεγαλύτερες σε διάρκεια πτήσεις

Το να ταξιδεύεις με αεροπλάνο είναι πλέον κάτι κοινό για τους περισσότερους ανθρώπους. Πόσο όμως είναι το μεγαλύτερο χρονικό διάστημα που έχει διαρκέσει μία πτήση σου;
Οι πιο πολλοί κάνουν ταξίδια που διαρκούν περίπου στις 3 ώρες, τι γίνεται όμως όταν θες να ταξιδέψεις από το ένα σημείο της Γης στο άλλο; Πόσο μπορεί να διαρκέσει η πτήση σε αυτές τις περιπτώσεις;
Παρακάτω ακολουθούν τα μεγαλύτερα σε διάρκεια, αλλά και απόσταση δρομολόγια:

How Does The Human Brain Create Consciousness?

(Image: JULIO CESAR AGUILAR FUENTES/AFP/Getty Images)

How does the brain create consciousness? originally appeared on Quorathe knowledge sharing network where compelling questions are answered by people with unique insights.
Answer by Yohan John, Ph.D in Cognitive and Neural Systems, on Quora:
Does the brain create consciousness? I’m not so sure. At the very least, I know that no neuroscientist has caught the brain “red-handed” in the act of creating consciousness.
… are we logos
In neurons of the brain
Maintaining voltage gradients
Across a membrane?
(That’s a lyric from the new Yeasayer album.)
The standard materialist position is that consciousness is tied up with the brain. There is plenty of evidence that the brain influences consciousness (and vice versa!), ranging from studies of brain damage to the well-known effects of mind-altering chemicals.

Remarks by President Donald Tusk during his visit to Turkey

Good evening. Let me first of all thank Prime Minister Davutoglu for the invitation to Gaziantep today. We last met in Brussels on 18 March, when we concluded an ambitious agreement between the European Union and Turkey with an aim to stem irregular migration and to create a legal avenue for refugees to seek and obtain asylum in Europe. Our visit here today is part of the follow-up to that agreement.
Combined with other actions we have taken together with the Western Balkans countries, in Greece and by stepping up our support to refugees in third countries, we are starting to see results.
Since the March agreement we have seen a sharp reduction of the illegal migration flows across the Aegean. Our return operations are working in tandem with resettlements of Syrian nationals from Turkey to EU Member States, demonstrating the desired shift from illegal to legal migration.

Climate change: EU signs the Paris Agreement

On 22 April 2016 the EU and its 28 member states will sign the global Paris climate agreement in a high-level ceremony in New York (United States). The agreement was concluded at the UN climate change conference in December 2015, so called COP21, that took place in Paris. The document will be now open for signature for one year.
Dutch Minister for the Environment and President of the Council, Sharon Dijksma, said: "This is a historic day for global climate action. The Paris Agreement is a real turning point in limiting temperature rise and preventing risks posed by climate change. This signature sets out in black and white the EU's commitment to do its part and keep up the momentum from Paris. Continuous action is required."

The Holly Flame and the Waste...

Council adopts EU Passenger Name Record (PNR) directive

On 21 April 2016 the Council adopted a directive on the use of passenger name record (PNR) data for the prevention, detection, investigation and prosecution of terrorist offences and serious crime.
The directive aims to regulate the transfer from the airlines to the member states of PNR data of passengers of international flights, as well as the processing of this data by the competent authorities. The directive establishes that PNR data collected may only be processed for the prevention, detection, investigation and prosecution of terrorist offences and serious crime.
Under the new directive, air carriers will be obliged to provide member states' authorities with the PNR data for flights entering or departing from the EU. It will also allow, but not oblige, member states to collect PNR data concerning selected intra-EU flights. However, considering the current security situation in Europe, all member states declared that by the date of transposition of the directive they will make full use of the possibility provided for by Article 2 to include also selected intra-EU flights.

Megacities, not nations, are the world’s dominant, enduring social structures

Cities are mankind’s most enduring and stable mode of social organization, outlasting all empires and nations over which they have presided. Today cities have become the world’s dominant demographic and economic clusters.
As the sociologist Christopher Chase-Dunn has pointed out, it is not population or territorial size that drives world-city status, but economic weight, proximity to zones of growth, political stability, and attractiveness for foreign capital. In other words, connectivity matters more than size. Cities thus deserve more nuanced treatment on our maps than simply as homogeneous black dots.

Council conclusions on Countering Hybrid Threats

  1. The increasing use of hybrid strategies and operations by state and non-state actors in the immediate and wider EU neighbourhood requires swift and appropriate action to prevent and counter hybrid threats to the Union and its Member States as well as partners. The Council underlines the need to mobilise EU instruments to this end, in line with the Conclusions by the European Council of June 2015 and the Council Conclusions on CSDP of May 2015, while recognising the primary responsibility of Member States for security and defence and taking into account relevant ongoing work as regards both internal and external policies.

Θαυματουργές θεραπείες;

Background

I'm writing a book that goes into details about all this. 10% of proceeds goes to a charity that helps kids learn to code.
I build all my games using RubyMotion.
My friend said it would be good to post my story here.
I built an iOS app called A Dark Room that hit the #1 spot in the App Store. Here is the article The New Yorker wrote about it.

Council conclusions on Libya

  1. The EU welcomes the arrival of the Presidency Council in Tripoli on 30 March 2016 and commends the courage and determination of Prime Minister Serraj, the other members of the Presidency Council and supporting actors on the ground. This move helps pave the way for the effective government of the country by the Government of National Accord (GNA) and for addressing the needs of the Libyan people.
  2. The success of the GNA will depend on the collective efforts and cooperation of the Libyan people and their leaders. The EU underlines the Libyan ownership of the political process and the importance of its inclusiveness, notably through the continued participation of political and local actors, women and civil society. The EU, alongside Libya's neighbouring countries, the UN and the international community, stands ready to support the GNA, at its request, to help it restore peace and stability in Libya.

How Hiroshima rose from the ashes of nuclear destruction

In August 1945, a 16-kilotonne atomic bomb killed 140,000 people and reduced a thriving city to rubble. Hiroshima has been reborn as a place of peace and prosperity, but will memories of those dark days die with the last survivors?
The Genbaku Dome, now the Hiroshima Peace Memorial, was one of the few structures left standing. Photograph: Shigeo Hayashi/Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum

The people of Hiroshima have developed a verbal shorthand for describing their city’s layout. A particular street is “about 1.5 kilometres away”; a building “500 metres north”. No further explanation is required. The unspoken reference point is the hypocentre of the world’s first nuclear attack.

A Russian fighter jet “performed erratic and aggressive manoeuvres” as it flew just 15 metres from a US Air Force plane, it has emerged.
The incident took place over the Baltic Sea during a routine flight in international airspace on Thursday, the US European Command said.
The US plane was intercepted by a Russian SU-27 in an unsafe and unprofessional manner, Danny Hernandez, a spokesman for the Command, told CNN.

How US covered up Saudi role in 9/11

In its report on the still-censored “28 pages” implicating the Saudi government in 9/11, “60 Minutes” last weekend said the Saudi role in the attacks has been “soft-pedaled” to protect America’s delicate alliance with the oil-rich kingdom.
That’s quite an understatement.

The "Charioteer of Delphi" is one of the best known ancient Greek statues, and one of the best preserved examples of classical bronze casts. It is considered a fine example of the "Severe" style.
The sculpture depicts the driver of the chariot race at the moment when he presents his chariot and horses to the spectators in recognition of his victory. Despite the severity of the moment, the youth's demeanor encapsulates the moment of glory, and the recognition of his eternal athletic and moral stature, with abundant humility.

10 of the most breathtaking night skies on Earth

Earlier this month the Association of Universities for Research in Astronomy (AURA) observatory in the Elqui Valley of northern Chile’s Andean mountains was designated the first International Dark Sky Sanctuary by the International Dark-Sky Association (IDA), a non-profit organisation based in Tuscon, Arizona in the US.
The night sky has inspired our art and literature since early civilisation. Being cut off from that source by light pollution is to be deprived of something essential to our humanity
Dark skies are increasingly rare: as the human population becomes more and more urbanised, man-made lights obscure our view of the stars and other celestial features.
“About two thirds of human population today live under light polluted skies, not dark enough to see the Milky Way,” says Babak Tafreshi, director of The World at Night (TWAN), an international organisation that curates and exhibits astrophotographs.
“Most city skies today are virtually empty of stars. Watching the spectacular arch of the Milky Way rising over the horizon sounds like a scene of science fiction to many kids and young people raised in urban areas.”

Dr John Barentine, program manager at the IDA adds: “The night sky has inspired our art and literature since early civilisation. Being cut off from that source by light pollution is to be deprived of something essential to our humanity.”
And some experts point out light pollution can disrupt the navigational ability of animals including turtles, fish and butterflies.
The best views of stars and other celestial features require a sky that is both dark and clear.
This usually means remoteness from artificial lights and good weather, although natural light can at times obscure a view of the stars: “You won’t see many stars in a clear full moon night, nor in a summer night of high latitude regions where the polar twilight prevents total darkness,” explains Tafreshi.
Barentine says that arid environments offer some of the best dark and clear skies, but adds: “People shouldn’t overlook the skies wherever they happen to live. On any clear night there’s much to see in the night sky, even for city-dwellers.”
Some of the world’s most astonishing night skies are over places that are very remote and hard to reach, while other sites are astrotourism hotspots encompassing national parks and observatories.
Here are 10 of the best places on Earth for a view of the night sky at its most magnificent.
